Mana Regen for Solo Hunters (Warcraft)

Mana Regeneration for Solo Hunters

Introduction:
One of our MMOEdge 40 something hunters was constantly running out of Mana - stopping for drinks really slows down grinding. And a hunter's life without mana is no fun - DPS drops like a stone, no pet heals, no feign death etc. Eventually we discovered that the key to effective mana conservation is to understand mana regeneration. Although most cloth wearers know this instinctively, very few hunter guides talk about it. Here are our method(s):

Spirit and Grinding
1. Spirit is very important for grinding. High int will give you a high starting mana while a high spirit will give you a better rate of mana regeneration. Its nice to have a good bit of both but in the long run properly used spirit will keep you going further if you understand the five second rule. Our aim when grinding easy mobs is to finish each fight with the same mana you start with - no downtime at all.

The 5-Second Rule
2. NB NB Know and use the five second rule. Spirit will regenerate mana during combat but no regeneration happens for 5 seconds after a spell is cast. The five seconds timer runs from the point at which the spell stops using mana. This is important. Aimed shot for example draws mana at the end of the 3 second load up - mana regeneration happens during those three seconds but not for five seconds after. Heal pet on the other hand draws mana at the start but by the end of the channeling period the five seconds is almost up and mana regen starts quickly.

Maximise your Mana Regeneration
3. Fire special shots / abilities in bursts rather than space them out. The key to getting the most out of spirit is to maximize the amount of time for which mana is regenerating. A worst case scenario would be to fire exactly one ability every five seconds - This would result in no mana regeneration at all. The better way to do it is to use a bunch of special abilities and then wait for mana regeneration to act before firing the next bunch. Multishot with its 10 second cool down allows for a nice bit of mana regen and can be used as a timer if you finish your burst of special shots with a multi.

The Order of Shots and Abilities
4. Pick the order of your shots carefully in order to maximize mana regeneration time. Aimed shot for example should be used at the start of a burst of abilities so you are still regenerating during the 3 second load up. Heal pet on the other hand should be used at the end so that regeneration starts soon after you finish channeling.

Regen Mana Properly Between Fights
5. Be sure you are regenerating mana fully for the whole time between fights. In the time it takes to walk to a corpse, loot it, select a new target and send in your pet you can regenerate a lot of mana PROVIDING you haven't stopped your mana regeneration by using a spell during this time. This goes against the grain for many hunters who are used to using Hunter's Mark or even laying a trap in preparation for a fight.
- If you are going to open with aimed shot don't use any mana consuming ability before it or else you will delay mana regeneration for at least 8 seconds. This ban includes setting traps, changing aspect, or hunters mark.
- Do not use any special ability to deliver the coup de grace at the end of a fight. If you kill a running mob with an arcane shot then you will waste 5 seconds of valuable mana regeneration between fights. Better to use a couple of autoshots or let your pet take them down (Dash or Dive is handy). If you are really worried about a runner pulling adds then serpent sting them at about 30% health. The last few ticks of the sting will bring them down quickly and your mana regen should start five seconds after the sting was fired. Worst case if you do get unwanted adds at least by folowing these tips you will have plenty of mana to deal with them.

In Case You Pull Aggro from Your Pet
6. If your pet loses aggro and the mob targets you don't panic and spam a whole bunch of spells. We used to be terrible for this - We waste a ton of mana with raptor strikes, wing clips, scatter shots all of which just made it harder for our pet to regain aggro. Providing your pet is alive its usually better to absorb a few hits and just keep autoshot or melee attack working away - after a couple of growls your pet will regain aggro and you'll still have plenty of mana to control the situation.

Example Strategies

7. Some sample strategies that work:
1. For grinding lower level mobs: select target, send in pet, load up aimed shot, when aimed shot fires immediately serpent sting, hunters mark and multishot, then autoshot to death. Resist the temptation to fire a second burst of specials - these mobs go down quickly and you'll just prevent mana regeneration from happening during the break from one mob to the next.
2. For grinding tougher mobs: Start as above but if the mob still has a lot of health (>50%) after the 10s multishot timer has cooled down fire another burst of aimed shot/multishot. We have seen this called the hunters cycle but remember to stop at least 5 seconds before the mob dies so that you get full benefit from mana regeneration between fights. If you do use aimed shot do not use any ability before it.
3.If you realy want to set a freeze trap: Perhaps you are trying to crowd control a mob in a group of two. The main difference here is that you should abandon aimed shot if you set a trap - else you lose a lot of mana regen time. Try this: select a target, send in pet, drop a trap while pet is running, then hunters mark, arcane shot and multishot. The multishot will pull the second mob towards you and your trap.
4.Soloing Elites: Conventional wisdom has it that tough elites need to be kited but we prefer this method. Start as before with pet, aimed shot, serpent, mark, multi in that order. Then keep autoshotting until either you pet has reached 50% health or your serpent sting has run out. Then top up serpent sting and immediately cast heal pet in that order. Repeat until mob is dead. The philosophy here is to conserve most of your mana for keeping your pet alive.

Mana Efficiency of Shots
8. We want to add a comment on the mana efficiency of shots:
The exact damage per unit of mana depends on the hunters stats and the targets amour but without going into the maths Serpent sting is very mana efficient followed closely by Aimed shot. Multi shot is a fair bit less efficient and Arcane shot is generally very inefficient A true mana miser would probably avoid multishot but we find that my general mana regeneration strategy allows me enough leeway to use multishot for that bit of extra damage and faster killing. On very low level mobs which go down too quickly to allow time for mana regen you would do better to leave out multishot.

Armour and resists complicate things a little bit because aimed shot and multishot damage is mitigated by amour while arcane shot is not. In theory it might be more efficient to use arcane shot than autoshot on a very heavily armored mob. We cannot recall coming across any examples of this however.

9. We have no experience of high end raiding so we cannot vouch for the effectiveness of these tips in raids. Understanding how mana regen works and knowing the correct order of shots in order to maximize mana regen can only help we guess.

Blizzard's take on MMOs for consoles; no WoW for consoles (Wow)

's J. Allen Brack and Tom Chilton, they squashed every console gamers' hopes of seeing the highly acclaimed MMO, World of Warcraft, boxed neatly inside a console. Also discussed were several other topics regarding the upcoming Wrath of the Lich King, as well as other new content for the game.

Chilton was also rather excited about the new achievement system that they will be introducing soon. It will definitely give players something to strive for and extend their gameplay even further.

When asked about the hardest challenge the developers have encountered so far, Brack answered that the insertion of the new Death Knight class was the biggest hurdle they've faced. However, with the beta phase for WotLK well underway, modifications are still being made to the new character class before its official release with the new expansion.

One of the more interesting things they discussed was Blizzard's take on MMOs made for consoles and social networks. This doesn't necessarily mean gamers should hope for a console version of WoW soon. Brack specifically mentioned while this may work with other MMOs, this setup wouldn't really work with World of Warcraft. I guess this just means we'll just have to play WoW as it was meant to be played: on a PC.

Blizzard to show off Lich King opening cinematic at Leipzig Games Convention
Arthas approves of this message - Image 1Blizzard has already confirmed their presence at the Leipzig Games Convention, but Kotaku recently found out an extra bit of information pertaining to Blizzard's presence at GC. Specifically, Blizzard will be showing off some new media for convention-goers to drool over.

According to Kotaku's report, Blizzard is planning on unveiling the opening cinematic movie for Wrath of the Lich King at the event.

Following the airing of the opening movie, the company will also host a Q&A session, presumably to answer questions folks may have on the cinematic.

Playable demos, an opening cinematic, and a forum for questions. Sounds like the Blizzard media machine is going full force at Leipzig. Keep checking QJ for updates from Leipzig as it happens.

Warcraft Characters app for iPhone gets new update (Wow)

If you want to pull up some quick information about your World of Warcraft character (or anyone else's for that matter), why don't you try browsing for it on your iPhone. I'm not talking about the WoW Armory. There's a quicker way for you to do that - on the new and updated version of the Warcraft Characters app for the iPhone.

Released last July on the App Store, the WoW-friendly application now features some interesting and useful additions. Aside from compatibility with Apple's firmware 2.0, the app now allows you to view a character's gear, as well as his or her's reputation status.

In addition, non-US players can now make use of the app since it provides extended compatibility for characters from all other realms, such as those from China, Korea and Taiwan. The only thing missing seems to be the talents list for each character viewed. Otherwise, as a portable Armory, this app definitely does the job quite well.

Warcraft Characters is available on the App Store for free, so go ahead and download a copy. We'll be sure to keep tabs on any further updates regarding this nifty app as soon as we get them.

Leipzig: Games Convention 2009 dated, GC 2008 sets record (Warcraft)

Games Convention 2008 finally closing its curtains, we now get confirmation that next year's event has already been scheduled. The announcement was made via press release by Leipziger Messe GmbH CEO Wolfgang Marzin: GC 2009 will be held from August 19 to 23, also in Leipzig.

Along with the announcement, we hear of a survey conducted to this year's event's visitors, asking them if they'd want to see another GC next year.

Among all the visitors - whether trade exhibitor or part of the general public (some of which have travelled from half way across the world just to see the show) - a vast majority of about 90 agreed.

This makes me think of what the outcome would have been if a survey like this were conducted at the end of this year's E3, but moving on…

GC 2008's success is proven by the sheer number of visitors who dropped in: over the four-day period, some 203,000 people came in. Compared to last year, the number of software and hardware companies from around the world who participated in the Leipzig event have increased, from 189 to 234.

Eve of the Leipzig Games Convention: setting up the booths
Leipzig is looking pretty spiffy this year, and I'm really looking forward to it, considering how much of a downer E3 turned out to be. Anyway, the good folks at 1UP have posted a new bunch of photos from the site of the Leipzig event as the booths are being set up for the big shebang tomorrow.

My personal favorite are the promotional figures for Lego Batman made up entirely of Lego blocks. Several major booths worth of noting is the not-little-but-big LittleBigPlanet booth, Blizzard's World of Warcraft, Age of Conan, Tomb Raider: Underworld, and Mirror's Edge. You can see who else is coming to the show by clicking on the pics below.

For more pics from the site, follow the source link below. As expected, there's no sign of Nintendo, who has decided to go on a roadshow rather than join the rest of the group.

Priests Guide To Killing Your Mobs the RIGHT Way (World of warcraft)

Alright, I decided to write this little 'mini-guide' because I keep hearing about people having problems with priest.

Priest is honestly not a hard class to play if you know how to play it right.

This isnt a guide to go out and kill Onyxia solo, this is for the average fight you encounter wherever, knowing how to start a fight properly, and knowing how to react to a sudden attack.

This really only applies to Soloing.

I. Starting a fight: This is for the times when you see a mob and have time to set up an attack.

1.Preparation
a. First thing you do is make sure all of your buffs are in order, Power Word: Fortitude, Inner Fire, Etc.
b. Pop on Power Word: Shield. Alot of people make the mistake of putting on PW:S after youve already hit the mob with your pulling spell..this is WRONG…so dont do it. Instead, turn on PW:S and wait until you have about 15 seconds left on it before attacking. Most mobs take down your shield within 15 to 20 seconds, this way your mana will have time to recharge plus, by the time the mob takes down your shield, you'll be ready to pop on another one.

2. The Actual fight (first blow to last)
a. Many people start the fight with Mind Blast because it does the most damage and takes the longest to recharge, wrong. dont do it. Start the fight off with Smite…Yes you heard me, Smite. Nobody mentions smite in their guides because it takes FOREVER to cast. This is why you cast it in the beginning. The mob will then start rushing towards you. You want your second attack to be Mind Blast because you can cast it in the amount of time it takes the mob to get to you. From there you want to hit the mob with Shadow Word: Pain and start the DOT process. (If youre in a group, or taking damage at any point in the fight, cast Vampyric Embrace to get some health back)
b. So far your attacks should be (IN ORDER)
Smite
Mind Blast
Shadow Word: Pain
c. For the rest of the fight you want to cast in this order.
Mind Flay
Mind Flay
Mind Blast
Repeat.
And apply SW: Pain or PW:S again when necessary

II. Sudden attacks
1. Alot of the time youre going to get attacked by mobs that just spawned or ones that you didnt see. The outcome of this fight is dependant on reaction time…so the biggest tip is this. KNOW YOUR HOTKEYS. Quick reaction time can save you from certain death.
a. First things first, pop on Power Word: Shield. This thing should give you enough time to get the next couple of spells in.
b. Vampyric embrace, dont bother with Renew, Minor Heal, Flash Heal, or Heal, These take too long to cast and take up way too much mana. Rather regain health as youre attacking, your DOTs should bring you the amount of health that you need.
c. Shadow Word: Pain to start the DOT process.
d. From there just follow the steps in section 2 based on a normal fight.
Mind Blast
Mind Flay
Mind Flay
Mind Blast
Repeat.
And apply SW: Pain or PW:S again when necessary

This is really more of a guide to soloing than a group guide, its also entirely dependent on you being a shadow build.

PS: You cant cast Smite while in Shadow Form. Take that into account.

Solo Bloodvine (Rogue Herbalist) (Warcraft)

This requires a rogue, herbalism & a Blood Scythe (allows you to recieve Bloodvine), you will also need to be in a raid but preferably not leader (for resetting).

In ZG there are 2 (yes only 2) herb nodes which have only 2 humanoids guarding them. The 1st is the hut directly to the left right after you enter, the second is the hut to the right after the second bridge, infront of Snake boss room. They do not always spawn, if they do not just reset the instance (described later). If a herb IS up in these location, its as simple as a sap and a blind to be able to pick the herb and possibly recieve a Bloodvine in this manner.

To reset ZG: Head towards the door, make sure you are not the leader, promoting someone else if neccesary. Leave party and zone out. Reinvite the person that was in your raid and zone in with yourself as leader. Just be sure you are not the leader when you leave raid to reset.

(I have a few more farming tricks but I am not going to flood the forum with them)

Paladin Leveling Guide (Warcraft)

Paladin Info & General Guide

Intro
As you probably know, the Paladin is an Alliance-only class. As a human or dwarf, you have the option to be a Paladin. At first, the Paladin can seem as a warrior, but with healing. That's pretty far from the truth, as the Warrior is a tank and pretty good damage dealer in solo if specced right, while the Paladin is far more a hybrid.
Although the Paladin isn't best at any one thing, it's a great hybrid (and second best at taking a lot of damage [can use plate and shield]).
As a Paladin and hybrid, you can't fight, and you kill slowly, but you can make yourself invulnerable, stun, heal yourself and others, prevent enemies from fleeing, making them replenish your hp and mana (:O) and a lot more.
So, when soloing, you will be almost invulnerable.
That sounds tempting and overpowered, but considering the perhaps lowest dps in the game, it sure evens out (Paladins get low xp-rates as they kill slowly).

How to Play a Paladin
When soloing, we suggest using a two-handed weapon with nice damage output and heal yourself when necessary. Try to choose the right seals, judgments and buffs (Paladins have most buffs in the game).
While we're on the subject of buffs: everyone wants them. When soloing, use Blessing of Might or Blessing of Kings (if protection specced). These will help your damage output. Casters will always want Blessing of Salvation or Wisdom (More mana or less aggro) I always give the priest Salvation, as a healer wipe means a party wipe. Rouges should have Blessing of Might and the tank should have Blessing of Kings or Blessing of Might (preferably Blessing of Kings).

Paladins also have some interesting auras. Use the armor one, if there are a lot of pally's, and try to use the concentration aura as well.
As for seals and judgments, in instances the Judgment of Justice (no fleeing) is a must. You can have it on many mobs at a time, and it usually lasts the whole fight, meaning no fleeing and adds at all!
We usually use anti-flee. If you are fighting non-fleeing enemies, use the Judgment of the Crusader to increase your SoC damage.
We usually use the Seal of Command, at about 15% of your hits, you almost get double damage To get it, you'll need the Retribution talent tree, which you should have some points in anyway until higher lvls. If you get low on mana, use seal of wisdom, which gives you a fast mana regen rate when in combat. The Seal of the Crusader (increased attack speed) is only good when fighting casters, mostly in PvP. The Seal of Righteousness gives some extra holy damage, but we never use it. It CAN be good for offtanking though, as you get more aggro combined with Righteous Fury.

Talents
The Paladin talent tree is divided into Holy, Protection and Retribution talent trees. The holy tree is mostly used by high lvl players, as you'll want to max damage with the retribution tree when leveling. The holy tree gives extra int and str (which are recommended), better healing, less mana output and the only ranged attack The negative is that you lose the damage output or extra defense from the other trees.

The Protection tree makes the Paladin a better tank, giving better shield skills, better aggro gaining and such. You can build this tree up to Blessing of Kings, which is arguably the most useful buff you have. (Depends on where you use it: Healers and casters shouldn't have it on, as mana and reduced aggro is more important.) When getting the BoK, you can improve shield skills (only if you want to offtank alot) or get 10% more amour, who applies when you use 2h too.

The Retribution tree is bent on maxing your damage output. You get the Seal of Command, who ROCKS when soloing You also get 5% more crits in melee, 6% more 2h damage, 8% faster running and riding, better BoM, Repentence (stunning for 8sec) and such. This is the tree we recommend if you want to solo and lvl fast. Respec later if you want to.
You don't always have to max out trees, if you like a decent mix. BoK is good everywhere, so is extra armour. The SoC is a must for soloers, and so is the danmage. The int and str increase is sure nice from the Holy ree. When lvl 60, think about respeccing to a pure holy pala or something, depending on your play style. (Holy is probably what you are needed for by your guild, and OFC Blessing of Kings)

PvP
In PvP, Paladins are usually underestimated.
As a Paladin, you wont nuke em dead in 2 seconds, but you wont be nuked dead in 2 seconds by others either. What you have to be careful of is hunters that use concussive shot and mages that freeze and chill you. This is dangerous, as you can't shoot! Always use a 2h weapon in PvP, and with the shields and heals, Paladins are one of the classes that lasts longest in PvP. As a Paladin, we have managed to kill 3 equal lvled players ALONE in PvP by killing one, stunning, healing, shield, heal, kill, and so on. Try, you'll at least not waste too much time dying

In Instances:
In instances, Paladins should not be tanks (You don't keep aggro well)
And not heal until high lvls, as a Paladin who wants to lvl wont have holy talents (at least not very many). In addition, a normal Paladin below lvl 60 usually wont have all too high int. meaning low mana.
What IS good about the Paladin in instances is the very diverse and powerful buffs and auras, and the fact that you are a hybrid, as mentioned earlier. If the tank loses aggro of a mob or a patrol comes from behind: no problem! The casters are safe, as a plate-wearing part-time tank can hold em off until the warrior gets em! The Paladin can heal long enough for the healer to get some more mana (hopefully) And if your healing aggros the mobs? Invulnerable bubble Blessing of Salvation Plate amour There are many good ways to solve it With this, Paladins are very useful, even if they aren't damage dealers, super tanks or superhealers. As long as you dont think you are any of them, you`ll be fine. When not needed, just slam your 2h weapon in the side of some mob until the healer or tank can't manage their role. That is the time when people finds that Paladins aren't so useless as they thought just because they are hybrids.

Easy Gold (Warcraft)

GOLD METHODS

Some of ways to get gold are legitimate, others are under-the-table crooked. Personally, I like to
make an honest gold coin. Ripping off other players is not my game, BUT, I'm here to deliver you
the information. Even if you are an honest player, knowing this info is good because it will keep
you on guard against the shadow players that like to scam you for a quick gold.

METHOD ONE: The AH Dupe

METHOD TWO: AH Monopoly

The AH Dupe: A Crooked way to Gain Gold

'A fool and his money are soon parted.'

With so many pockets running around the game, it is very possible to scam others out of their
money. Not everyone is financially bright, and these methods take advantage of that. First of all,
don't be stupid and use your main to do these. Get a mule (a different character), or even better
yet, a mule on a completely separate account, to mask your actions.

This works. Plain and simple. It takes advantage of human psychology of repetition. And it can
get you a very rapid 100 gold.

What it is:

The AH Dupe tries to 'trick' an auction buyer who is making a BUY-OUT purchase of a routine
item that normally sells for X amount of silver, into purchasing it for X amount of gold. the AH
dupe uses monotony to lull the purchaser into repetitious clicking, causing them to pay less
attention to what they are buying, and inadvertently purchasing the item for gold instead of silver.

How it works:

Have you ever driven a car at night, staring at the white lines zooming by on the road, and
suddenly realize that 5 minutes have gone by (or longer) and you have no idea how you were
able drive? You dont have a clue what cars have or have not been around you, because you
totally spaced out. Your subconscious mind went into 'auto-pilot' and you safely drove your car.
This is called 'being human'. Anyone exposed to repeated, repetitious stimuli is subject to losing
their ability to distinguish one from another. Can happen to anyone…including a WoW auction
buyer.

Look at this list:

* Do you want to purchase this item for 88 silver? Yes/No
* Do you want to purchase this item for 88 silver? Yes/No
* Do you want to purchase this item for 88 silver? Yes/No
* Do you want to purchase this item for 88 silver? Yes/No
* Do you want to purchase this item for 88 silver? Yes/No
* Do you want to purchase this item for 88 gold? Yes/No
* Do you want to purchase this item for 88 silver? Yes/No
* Do you want to purchase this item for 88 silver? Yes/No

The auction buyer sees a bunch of useful consumables (such as stacks of 20 light feathers, or
stacks of silk cloths, or free action potions, etc. Anything that is popular with players). he sees a
big list in the AH of these stacks, and they are going for the normal buy-out rate. He starts
purchasing them like he always does. One after another, clicking through each screen. He doesn't really notice that one says '88 gold' instead of '88 silver' so he clicks it anyway.

What you need to do:

Sell at least 6 or more IDENTICAL items on the AH. Make them for the normal going rate (not
cheaper or you could stand to lose money). Put them up back to back in one long list. The
buyout on the fifth item is gold instead of silver. Everything else must be identical. There is a
chance that the buyer will get 'caught' in your scam. Its not guaranteed, but there are always
dummies around that will be duped. This is a scam, and everyone who buys frequently from the
AH is susceptible to it.

Yes it does work. Numerous people have posted long rants on the official boards being
scammed like this.

METHOD TWO: Monopolize the AH

I'm just going to quote a post from the official boards that explains this rather nicely. This post is
no longer on the forums (they remove posts after a certain amount of days), so I cannot link it,
and didn't get the name of the person that wrote it. Fortunately, I did copy it the day I read it, so
its not mine, but here it is- it outlines perfectly how to make a fortune by monopolizing the
Auction House. Its cl######ic economics 101: BUY LOW, SELL HIGH. Read on:

I cancelled my account a while back for reasons there's no point in disclosing, so I figured I'd tell
everyone how they can be financially secure forever like I was.

I had about five active alts and a main which I kept equipment and skills up to date by the level
and had enough cash on me to afford my mount by level 25 with all my alts having about 15 gold
on them at any point in time.

I see so many people talking about how they're level 40-45 and still can't afford their mount and
blah blah blah, it's funny. These are the same people who ironically state, 'Stay away from the
auction house!' or you won't make any money.

Go ahead and go to the AH. It's as simple as buy low, sell high. Just like in the real world! Yet it
feels almost as if it's this big secret.

All I did was make level five newbie, sit him at the auction house and log on maybe once or twice
a day to bid on stuff and check mail. Took probably five minutes to do each session.

Find a product you want to do and see what the average buyout price is. Then bid on auctions
ending in Short and Medium (as there's usually little point in bidding on Long unless you wanna
collect all your outbids later), for as little as you can. Buyout other auctions for significantly less
than your Buyout. Bid on any good that's normally sold by itself that is stacked for a super
discount. A good example is Black Pearls. Normally people buy one. Every once in a while some
guy sells a stack of 16 for only like 10 gold. Usually only takes 1 bid to win it!

The only 'hard' part is keeping up with market price trends, but after a while, you won't even have
to write them down anymore as you'll be able to memorize them effortlessly with practice and the
prices don't fluctuate too drastically.

For the super lazy, here was my excel sheet of the market demand of Silver Hand a few weeks
ago. Prices will vary on your server.

have to limit yourself to trade goods. If you even wanted to take a bit of a risk, bid on some blue
or purple items or blacksmithing recipes. Big returns on those. Mainly, I just stuck with probably
three or four items from that list and made a fortune. And it was fun doing it! My level five guy has
demonslaying on his newb sword–it kicks ######. Here's a screenshot:

Good luck guys and see ya later!!
